Italian giants AC Milan delivered a huge statement on Sunday night after edging rivals Inter Milan 1–0 in the heated Derby della Madonnina at San Siro. The narrow but crucial victory breathed new life into the Serie A title race and gave the Rossoneri bragging rights in one of football’s fiercest rivalries.

The decisive moment came in the 35th minute when Ecuadorian full-back Pervis Estupiñán produced a thunderous finish after a perfectly timed through ball from Youssouf Fofana. Estupiñán surged forward, shrugged off pressure from the Inter defense and smashed his shot past goalkeeper Yann Sommer to send the Milan crowd into wild celebrations.

The early lead forced Inter to respond aggressively, and the Nerazzurri created several opportunities in the second half. Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan made a brilliant run through the Milan defense but failed to beat goalkeeper Mike Maignan, whose calm presence proved vital for the hosts.

Milan nearly doubled their advantage before halftime when Christian Pulisic whipped a dangerous cross into the box, but Alexis Saelemaekers could not convert under pressure. Later in the second half, Rafael Leão also came close, firing just wide after a quick break.

Inter pushed hard for an equalizer late on, with chances falling to Ange-Yoan Bonny and Francesco Pio Esposito, but Milan’s defense held firm to secure all three points.

The win is particularly significant for Milan as it completes their first Serie A derby double over Inter since the 2010/11 season. The result also cuts Inter’s lead at the top of the table to seven points, keeping the Rossoneri firmly in the title hunt with several games still to play.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri will be delighted with the resilience shown by his squad, especially in a high-pressure derby where defensive discipline and clinical finishing often decide the outcome.

For Milan fans, the victory represents more than just three points—it is a powerful reminder that the Rossoneri remain a force capable of shaking the Serie A title race.
