The picturesque Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is the setting for the most pivotal fixture in Serie A this weekend. In a season that has defied all logic, Cesc Fàbregas’s Como host Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma, with both sides deadlocked on 51 points. This isn’t just a mid-March meeting; it’s a direct shootout for the fourth Champions League spot.

Como enter the fray as the form team of Italy. Their rise hasn’t been a fluke; it’s built on the league’s best pass accuracy and a terrifyingly efficient home record. After a gritty 2-1 win over Cagliari, Fàbregas has called for a “perfect game,” knowing that a victory here would put daylight between them and the Giallorossi.

Roma, meanwhile, are feeling the heat. Gasperini has brought tactical steel, but their away form has been a major Achilles’ heel, with six losses in their last ten road trips. Coming off a bruising 1-1 European draw with Bologna, the Romans need to find their second wind—and quickly—or risk falling behind in the race for the big time.

Team News & Tactical Chess

Fàbregas has a relatively clean bill of health but is sweating on the fitness of midfield engine Máximo Perrone, who is a 40/60 doubt with a heavy knock. Expect Nico Paz and Anastasios Douvikas to lead the line; both are sitting on 9 goals and are desperate to hit double figures tonight.

For Roma, the return of Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gianluca Mancini to the starting XI provides much-needed leadership. However, they will be without the suspended Evan N’Dicka and the injured Manu Koné. New arrival Donyell Malen has been a revelation with six goals in eight games and will be the man Como’s defense fears most.

Prediction: Expect a cagey, tactical battle. Como are dominant at home, but Roma have the veteran experience to frustrate them. A 1-1 draw feels written in the stars, though a moment of magic from Nico Paz could easily swing it 2-1 to Como.
