Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has officially become the hottest property in the Premier League. As we hit the business end of the 2025/26 season, the 23-year-old midfielder finds himself at the center of a high-stakes transfer battle between Manchester City and Manchester United, with a price tag that could touch the £100 million mark.

The State of Play: Blue vs. Red

The race for the former Newcastle man has reached a fever pitch, with both Manchester clubs viewing him as the cornerstone of their future midfields.

Manchester City (The Favorites): Reports suggest City are in pole position. Sporting director Hugo Viana reportedly identified Anderson as a primary target months ago. At the Etihad, he is seen as the tactical heir to Rodri, offering the same technical composure and versatility Pep Guardiola craves. Some insiders are even whispering that a deal is “all but done.”

Manchester United (The Challengers): Under Michael Carrick, United are desperate to find a long-term partner for Kobbie Mainoo. With Casemiro expected to depart for the MLS this summer, Anderson is United’s “Priority No. 1.” The Red Devils are reportedly willing to “go all out” to hijack City’s move, hoping the lure of being the face of the Ineos-era rebuild will swing it.

Why the Hype?

Anderson’s rise at the City Ground has been nothing short of meteoric. His stats for the 2025/26 campaign explain why the elite are circling:

Tactical Flexibility: He’s transitioned from a creative No. 8 at Forest to a deeper, controlling role with the England national team.

Ball Retention: Boasting a 88% passing completion rate in the Premier League, he has the “press-resistant” quality that elite teams demand.

Work Rate: With nearly 50 successful tackles this season, he’s as much a terrier off the ball as he is a technician on it.

The Player’s Stance

Speaking ahead of England’s friendly against Japan this week, Anderson remained tight-lipped but didn’t shut the door.

“I’m aware of the speculation, but my focus is entirely on keeping Forest in the league and making the World Cup squad,” Anderson told reporters. “Everything else will be handled when the season is over.”

While he’s focused on the pitch, the reality is that Forest have reportedly accepted he will leave this summer. Whether he lands at the Etihad or Old Trafford, Anderson is set to be the blockbuster move of 2026.
