The transfer rumor mill has been spinning faster than a prime Diego Simeone touchline sprint, and right at the center of it is Julián Álvarez. With the summer window creeping closer, “La Araña” has finally addressed the persistent whispers linking him with a blockbuster move to FC Barcelona.

Despite the noise coming out of Catalonia, the Argentine World Cup winner isn’t letting his head be turned. Speaking ahead of Atlético Madrid’s massive Champions League semi-final clash against Arsenal, Álvarez was blunt about the speculation.

“Every Week a New Story”

When quizzed about the reported interest from Hansi Flick’s side, Álvarez didn’t hold back on his frustration with the media cycle.

“I try not to give too much importance to what people say because every week a new story comes out,” Álvarez stated firmly. “I can’t come out and clarify or deny everything that comes out all the time.”
The forward, who joined Atleti from Manchester City in 2024, emphasized that his energy is strictly reserved for the pitch. “I’m 100% focused here on achieving big things. We’re having a very good season and we want to make history.”

The Barcelona Factor

Barcelona’s interest is no secret. Reports suggest the Blaugrana have already made contact with Atlético to gauge their stance, with Hansi Flick reportedly viewing Álvarez as the ideal partner for Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. However, with a release clause rumored to be in the region of €500 million and a contract running until 2030, any deal would require some serious financial gymnastics from the Barça board.

For now, Álvarez is letting his football do the talking. Having already netted crucial goals in the Copa del Rey and the Champions League quarter-finals against his potential future employers, his value to Simeone’s system has never been higher.

What’s Next for La Araña?

While Arsenal and Liverpool remain transitionally linked, Fabrizio Romano has reinforced that nothing will move in the coming days. With a Champions League trophy within touching distance for the Rojiblancos, Álvarez is keeping his blinkers on.

Will he stay at the Metropolitano, or is a move to the Camp Nou inevitable? Only time will tell, but for now, Julián Álvarez is strictly Atleti.
