It’s a tale of two very different seasons as we head to Turf Moor this Sunday. On one side, you’ve got Aston Villa, riding high after booking their ticket to the Europa League final. On the other, you’ve got a Burnley side that has already had their relegation to the Championship confirmed, playing for nothing but pride.

For Unai Emery’s men, the mission is simple: win. With the race for the fifth Champions League spot reaching a fever pitch, Villa cannot afford a slip-up against a side that has been in freefall.

Villa’s European High

Confidence in the Villa camp is through the roof. After dismantling Nottingham Forest 4-0 mid-week to reach a European final, the momentum is firmly with the Birmingham club. Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Buendía were both on the scoresheet, and they’ll be looking to feast on a Burnley defense that has been leaking goals like a sieve.

However, Emery has a balancing act to perform. With a historic final against Freiburg on the horizon, he might be tempted to rotate. We could see Tammy Abraham or Jadon Sancho getting a start to give the big guns a rest. Even with rotation, the depth of this Villa squad should be more than enough to handle a demoralized Burnley.

Burnley in Disarray

It’s been a season to forget for the Clarets. The sacking of Scott Parker felt like a “too little, too late” move, and Mike Jackson’s stint as interim boss hasn’t exactly sparked a miracle, recently falling 3-1 to Leeds. Burnley hasn’t won a top-flight game in their last nine attempts, and their scoring record at home has been abysmal.

The only real bright spot has been Zian Flemming, who is chasing a landmark 10th league goal. If he finds the net today, he’ll join Danny Ings and Chris Wood in an exclusive Burnley club, but he’ll need a lot more support than he’s been getting lately.

The Prediction

Villa has won their last three meetings against Burnley, including a 2-1 victory earlier this season where Donyell Malen bagged a brace. Burnley has “nothing to play for” energy, while Villa is chasing the dream of elite European football. Expect Villa to dominate possession and eventually break through.
