In a thrilling fifth‑round FA Cup tie at St. James’ Park on Saturday, Manchester City overturned an early deficit to earn a convincing 3–1 victory over Newcastle United and book their spot in the quarter‑finals.

Newcastle stunned the home crowd when Harvey Barnes fired the hosts ahead in the 18th minute, capitalising on early pressure and threatening to derail City’s cup ambitions.

However, City — fielding a rotated squad with rested stars — responded before half‑time. Savinho scrambled home a level‑making effort just before the break, before Omar Marmoush took centre stage after the interval.

Marmoush struck twice in the second half, first converting shortly after the restart and then curling a sensational 25‑yard thunderbolt into the top corner to complete the turnaround and silence the Toon Army.

Manager Pep Guardiola praised the performance at Newcastle as one of his side’s best at the iconic ground, highlighting the depth and resilience of his squad even without some first‑team regulars.

The win extends City’s impressive FA Cup run and keeps alive their hopes of silverware on multiple fronts this season. Newcastle, meanwhile, must now shift focus back to their Premier League and European commitments.
