Genoa CFC pulled off a dramatic 2–1 victory over AS Roma on Sunday in a tense Serie A clash at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, dealing a major blow to Roma’s push for Champions League qualification.

After a quiet first half, the match burst into life shortly after the break. Genoa took the lead in the 52nd minute when Brazilian winger Junior Messias converted a penalty following a foul inside the box. The goal sparked celebrations among the home fans and put Roma under immediate pressure.

Roma responded quickly and restored parity just three minutes later. Defender Evan Ndicka rose highest from a corner to head the ball into the net, bringing the visitors level at 1–1 and reigniting hopes of a comeback.

However, the decisive moment came late in the match. Portuguese forward Vitinha capitalized on a defensive lapse in the 80th minute, finishing from close range to hand Genoa a crucial victory in front of their home supporters.

The defeat proved costly for Roma in the Serie A standings, as the loss dropped them out of the top four and complicated their bid for a Champions League spot this season.

For Genoa, the win was a huge boost, continuing their strong home form and giving them valuable points as they push to climb further away from the relegation battle.

With the Serie A race heating up and the fight for European places intensifying, Roma will need a quick response in their next fixtures if they hope to reclaim their position among Italy’s elite.
