Man City Eyes Record-Breaking Raid on Livramento: Etihad Poised to Shake Up Right-Back Market

0

Manchester City are reportedly ready to go all out this summer to land Tino Livramento, the talented right-back currently starring for Newcastle United — and they might even smash the world transfer record for a full-back in the process. Sources say City have had their eye on the 23-year-old since last summer and remain firmly in the hunt for his signature as they seek a long-term solution at right-side defense.

City’s pursuit comes amid ongoing uncertainty over Livramento’s future at St James’ Park: Newcastle are actively trying to tie him down to a new contract, but negotiations have stalled and talks over an extension have yet to yield a breakthrough. As things stand, Livramento — who is under contract until 2028 — hasn’t publicly asked to leave, but the Etihad hierarchy believes he could be tempted by a move to Manchester.

What makes this potential transfer so eye-catching is the price tag. Reports claim City won’t hesitate to break the current world record fee for a defender — a mark set when Paris Saint-Germain paid £60 million for Achraf Hakimi — with Newcastle likely to demand around £70 million or more for Livramento’s services. If that happens, it would set a new benchmark for a full-back.

For Pep Guardiola’s side, strengthening the full-back department has become a priority following the departure of Kyle Walker, and while options like Rico Lewis have been deployed there this season, Livramento is seen as a more specialized, dynamic long-term fit.

City’s interest isn’t new — they’ve been tracking Livramento for a while and could try to structure a deal involving cash or even player swaps — but how far Newcastle are willing to push such a blockbuster sale, and whether Livramento himself wants to make the leap to a title-challenging City side, are still open questions.

In short, the summer looks set to open with one of the Premier League’s most intriguing right-back sagas: can City finally lure Livramento to the Etihad and reshape the transfer record books while they’re at it?
