Michail Antonio’s Return to Club Football: New Chapter in Qatar

0

Former West Ham United forward Michail Antonio has officially signed with Qatari side Al-Sailiya on a short-term contract, marking his return to professional club football after a long battle with injury and time as a free agent.

The 35-year-old striker, West Ham’s all-time leading Premier League scorer, struggled to find a club following a serious car crash in December 2024 that fractured his leg in multiple places. Despite training with clubs like Leicester City and undertaking trial periods in England, offers didn’t materialise due to fitness concerns earlier in 2026.

In his first move back into competitive football since departing West Ham in the summer of 2025, Antonio agreed terms with Al-Sailiya in the Qatar Stars League, where he’ll feature for the remainder of their season. He’s openly admitted he had to “swallow his ego” to secure the deal after months of uncertainty.

This signing not only ends a significant hiatus for the veteran but also gives him a platform to prove his fitness and rebuild his career momentum at club level.
