Pep Guardiola will be forced to watch from the stands after receiving a two-match touchline ban following a heated moment during Manchester City’s FA Cup clash with Newcastle United.

The City manager was booked after angrily confronting the fourth official during the game at St James’ Park. Guardiola was furious over a challenge on winger Jeremy Doku, which he believed deserved a stronger reaction from the referee. His protests led to a yellow card — his sixth of the season — automatically triggering a suspension under current disciplinary rules.

Despite the controversy on the touchline, Manchester City still delivered a strong performance on the pitch, coming from behind to defeat Newcastle 3–1 and book their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

However, Guardiola’s booking means he will miss City’s upcoming league match against West Ham United as well as their next FA Cup fixture. The suspension applies to domestic competitions but does not affect cup finals or European games, meaning he will still be able to lead his team in the upcoming EFL Cup Final against Arsenal

Speaking after the match, the Spanish coach reacted with sarcasm about his growing disciplinary record, joking that he now holds “all the records” for bookings and that he might as well take a short “holiday” while serving the ban.

For City, the incident is only a minor distraction as they continue their pursuit of more silverware this season. But for Guardiola, it is another reminder of the intense pressure and emotion that comes with leading one of Europe’s most dominant teams.
