Chaos at Ibrox: Celtic Beat Rangers but Old Firm Clash Marred by Violent Fan Pitch Invasion

0

A dramatic Scottish Cup showdown between Celtic F.C. and Rangers F.C. ended in controversy after violent clashes broke out among supporters following the final whistle at Ibrox Stadium.

The highly anticipated Old Firm quarter-final ended 0–0 after 120 minutes of intense football before Celtic triumphed 4–2 in a penalty shootout to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup

However, the thrilling result was quickly overshadowed by ugly scenes as hundreds of fans from both sides stormed onto the pitch. Celtic supporters initially invaded the field to celebrate the shootout victory, but tensions escalated when groups of Rangers fans also rushed onto the pitch, leading to clashes between rival supporters.

Reports from inside the stadium described chaotic scenes, with flares and other objects thrown while police officers and stewards attempted to form a barrier to separate the opposing groups. Authorities later confirmed that several people were injured during the disorder, including police officers who faced what was described as “extreme hostility and violence.”

Police Scotland condemned the incident, calling the behaviour of some fans “shameful” and confirming that arrests were made following the violence. An official investigation has now been launched in collaboration with both clubs and the Scottish Football Association.

The match had already carried extra tension, as Celtic were given a full allocation of around 7,500 away tickets at Ibrox for the first time in several years, increasing the already fierce atmosphere of one of football’s most intense rivalries.

Despite the off-field chaos, Celtic’s victory keeps their hopes alive of lifting another Scottish Cup trophy this season. But the disturbing scenes after the match have once again raised concerns about supporter behaviour in the historic Old Firm rivalry.
