Norwegian champions FK Bodø/Glimt delivered one of the biggest surprises of the UEFA Champions League knockout stage after a commanding 3–0 victory over Sporting CP in the Round of 16 first leg at the Aspmyra Stadion in Norway. The impressive win puts the underdogs in a strong position ahead of the return leg in Lisbon.
Bodø/Glimt started the match with confidence and intensity, pressing Sporting high up the pitch and creating several early chances. Their pressure finally paid off in the 32nd minute when midfielder Sondre Brunstad Fet converted a penalty after being fouled inside the box, giving the hosts a deserved lead and igniting the home crowd.
The Norwegian side continued to dominate and doubled their advantage just before halftime. Winger Ole Didrik Blomberg finished brilliantly from a tight angle following a clever pass from Jens Petter Hauge, sending Bodø/Glimt into the break with a comfortable 2–0 lead.
Sporting attempted to respond in the second half and enjoyed brief spells of possession, but they struggled to break down Bodø/Glimt’s disciplined defense. Instead, the home side sealed the victory in the 71st minute when striker Kasper Høgh tapped in from close range after another dangerous cross from Hauge.
The victory continues Bodø/Glimt’s remarkable Champions League campaign. The Norwegian club has now recorded several impressive results in the competition and extended its winning run, reinforcing its reputation as one of the tournament’s surprise packages this season.
For Sporting, the heavy defeat leaves them with a difficult task in the second leg at the Estádio José Alvalade, where they must overturn a three-goal deficit to keep their European hopes alive. Meanwhile, Bodø/Glimt are now within touching distance of a historic quarter-final appearance in Europe’s biggest club competition.
