Liverpool’s search for a Mohamed Salah successor has hit a massive, Bavarian-sized brick wall. As the news of Salah’s impending departure at the end of the 2025/26 season sent shockwaves through Anfield, the Reds reportedly set their sights on the one man who looks like a mirror image of the Egyptian King: Michael Olise.
But if FSG thought a record-breaking €200 million (£173m) bid would tempt Bayern Munich, they’ve been met with a cold, hard “Nein.”
Bayern’s “Unsellable” Stance
Bayern’s hierarchy didn’t just reject the rumors; they laughed them off. Honorary president Uli Hoeness was particularly biting, taking a swipe at Liverpool’s recent struggles despite their massive summer spending.
“Remember, Liverpool spent €500m last summer and is having a very bad season,” Hoeness remarked. “We will not sell him, even for 200 million euros.”
Sporting director Max Eberl echoed that sentiment, confirming there is no release clause in Olise’s contract, which runs until 2029. Bayern is “relaxed,” and as far as they are concerned, the French winger is the cornerstone of their future under Vincent Kompany.
The Numbers Behind the Hype
It’s easy to see why Liverpool are desperate. Olise has transformed into a world-class monster at the Allianz Arena. This season alone, his stats are borderline video-game numbers:
• Bundesliga: 11 goals and 18 assists in 25 matches.
• All Competitions: 16 goals and 27 assists (43 direct goal involvements).
• Status: Currently 9 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and a favorite for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
While the Reds might be willing to obliterate the British transfer record (again), Olise himself seems perfectly content in Munich. Reports suggest he isn’t pushing for a move, and if he ever does leave, Spain—not Merseyside—is his preferred destination.
What’s Next for Liverpool?
With Olise officially “unsellable,” Liverpool’s recruitment team has to look elsewhere. The Salah-shaped hole in the squad isn’t getting any smaller, and with the clock ticking toward the summer window, the pressure is on to find a Plan B that actually wants to come to Anfield.
