The “cursed” international break has struck again. Thomas Tuchel’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup have been thrown into total disarray following a bruising 1-1 draw against Uruguay on Friday night. In what is being described as a “medical evacuation,” eight players have officially left the England camp, leaving the Three Lions looking incredibly thin ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Japan.

If you’re an Arsenal fan, you might want to look away now. The North London club is facing a full-blown crisis as their “Three Lions” contingent returns home in various states of repair.

The Arsenal Ward: Madueke, Rice, and Saka Gone

The most concerning sight from Wembley was Noni Madueke. The winger, who has been a standout for both club and country lately, was spotted leaving the stadium with his left leg in a brace. After a heavy first-half challenge, he’s been sent back to Arsenal for immediate scans.

But it didn’t stop there. In a move that likely has Mikel Arteta fuming, both Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka have also withdrawn from the squad. While the FA is labeling these as “minor problems” requiring “medical assessment,” the fact that both key pillars are heading back to London at once suggests Tuchel isn’t taking any risks with the Premier League title race reaching its boiling point.

The Stones Saga Continues

Manchester City’s John Stones is another major casualty. Stones was actually slated to start against Uruguay but pulled out at the eleventh hour with a calf injury. He’s already back in Manchester, adding another chapter to a season that has been plagued by stop-start fitness issues. With the World Cup just months away, Stones’ reliability is becoming the biggest headache for the England coaching staff.

The Full Dropout List

It’s a revolving door at St. George’s Park. Here is the full list of players who have packed their bags early:

Noni Madueke (Arsenal) – Leg injury (In a brace)

John Stones (Man City) – Calf

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – “Minor problem”

Declan Rice (Arsenal) – “Minor problem”

Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace) – Impact injury vs Uruguay

Aaron Ramsdale (Newcastle) – Health/Injury issues

Fikayo Tomori (Milan) – Health/Injury issues

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds) – Health/Injury issues

What about Harry Kane?

The skipper remains the one beacon of hope, but even he is being wrapped in cotton wool. After missing some action for Bayern Munich with a calf knock earlier this month, Kane did feature against Uruguay but was largely isolated. Tuchel has admitted he is managing Kane’s workload carefully to avoid “physical exhaustion” before the summer heat of North America.

With the backup options like Calvert-Lewin now out of the picture, the pressure on Kane to stay fit has never been higher.
