The San Siro is getting a new “Kostić,” but it’s not the one Juventus fans are used to. While veteran Filip Kostić looks set to exit Turin this summer, AC Milan has stolen a march on the competition by securing the signature of 19-year-old Partizan Belgrade sensation Andrej Kostić.
In what is being hailed as a major coup for sporting director Igli Tare, the Rossoneri have officially reached an agreement for the young Montenegrin striker. Reports from Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Saturday that the deal is sealed, with the player already in Milan to undergo his medical this morning, Sunday, March 29.
The “Balkan Gem” Arrives
Milan has been tracking the 2007-born forward for months. After a failed attempt to bring him to Italy in January due to a valuation gap, the club didn’t blink. They’ve now reportedly agreed to a fee in the region of €3 million, beating out several top European sides who were hovering around the Partizan academy.
Andrej Kostić isn’t expected to jump straight into Massimiliano Allegri’s first team, though. The plan is a “slow-cook” approach. He will initially join the Milan Futuro project (the club’s U23 reserve team) in July to acclimatize to Italian football before being assessed for a potential senior role.
Why the Hype?
Standing at 184cm, Andrej has been tearing up the Serbian Super Liga, averaging a goal nearly every 66 minutes this season. He’s a modern, versatile forward who can play across the front line, but it’s his clinical finishing and “old school” predatory instincts that have Milan scouts excited.
In a summer where the club is looking for a 20-goal-a-season striker (with names like Santiago Castro and Mateo Retegui also on the shortlist), Kostić represents a low-risk, high-reward investment for the future.
What about Filip Kostić?
Ironically, as one Kostić enters the city, the other might be leaving the league. Filip Kostić’s contract at Juventus is set to expire this June, and rumors are swirling that his departure from the Bianconeri will be officially announced soon. While there were brief whispers of Milan looking at the veteran to bolster their wing-back depth, the focus has clearly shifted toward youth and long-term planning.
The arrival of Andrej Kostić is a clear signal: Milan isn’t just buying for today; they’re building a dynasty for tomorrow.
