Gritty 2-1 Win in Bremen: Leipzig Grinds Out Vital Result on Werner’s Return

RB Leipzig didn’t exactly put on a footballing clinic at the Weserstadion yesterday, but as any seasoned punter knows, a win is a win—no matter how ugly it looks. In a match that was more about heart and clinical finishing than tactical flair, Die Roten Bullen snatched a 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen, ruining head coach Ole Werner’s homecoming for the hosts.

The game started with Bremen looking like the hungrier side. They dominated the ball and created early scares, with Justin Njinmah dragging a shot wide that should have tested the keeper. But Leipzig showed why they’re chasing Champions League football. In the 15th minute, against the run of play, Antonio Nusa found the net to give the visitors a lead they arguably didn’t deserve at that point.

Leipzig doubled their money seven minutes into the second half. A lapse in Bremen’s concentration allowed Rômulo to pounce, slotting home a composed finish to make it 2-0. From there, it was all about game management. Bremen huffed and puffed, finally pulling one back via a Salim Musah consolation goal in the 94th minute, but it was too little, too late.

Captain David Raum summed it up best post-match, admitting it wasn’t their best performance but praising the “togetherness” that saw them through. For those tracking the Bundesliga table, this result keeps Leipzig firmly in the hunt for the top four, while Bremen remains looking over their shoulder at the relegation scrap.
