Real Madrid’s chase for the La Liga crown took a massive hit yesterday as they slumped to a shock 2-1 defeat against a gritty Mallorca side at the Son Moix. For Los Blancos fans, this wasn’t just a loss; it was a total collapse in the final moments that could hand the title to Barcelona on a silver platter.

The match started with Madrid controlling the ball but failing to do much with it. Despite having over 60% possession, they lacked that killer instinct in front of goal. Mallorca, playing the classic underdog role, waited for their moment and struck first in the 41st minute. Manu Morlanes capitalized on a defensive lapse to tuck the ball home, sending the home crowd into a frenzy just before the break.

The second half was a story of Madrid huffing and puffing. Alvaro Arbeloa threw on the big guns, and it looked like the rescue mission was complete when Eder Militao rose highest to thump home a header in the 88th minute. At 1-1, most people expected Madrid to go on and snatch it, or at least escape with a point.

But the script had one final, cruel twist. Deep into stoppage time (92nd minute), Vedat Muriqi finished off a lightning-fast counter-attack to seal a historic 2-1 win for Mallorca. The scenes at the final whistle were pure chaos—pure joy for the hosts and absolute despair for the visitors.

Arbeloa was blunt after the game, stating his team needs to give “200%” if they want to stay in this race. With only a few games left, this result feels like a massive step backward. Madrid had the ball, but Mallorca had the heart.
