It’s Monday night at the Stadio Via del Mare, and the stakes couldn’t be higher for two teams at completely opposite ends of the Serie A spectrum. Lecce are currently treading water in the relegation zone, while Atalanta are sniffing around for a late-season surge into the Champions League places.

The last time these two met back in September, Atalanta ran riot in a 4-1 thrashing. Today, Lecce will be praying for a much grittier performance to keep their survival hopes alive.

Lecce: Backs Against the Wall

For Eusebio Di Francesco’s men, the situation is becoming critical. Currently sitting 18th in the table with 27 points, Lecce are tied with Cremonese and just a handful of points away from safety. Their recent form has been alarming—four losses in their last five games—and the goals have simply dried up.

With only 21 goals scored all season, Lecce are the lowest-scoring side in the division. If they are to get anything out of today, they’ll need a massive shift from their forward line, particularly Omri Gandelman, who has been one of the few bright spots in a tough campaign. At home, they’ve often managed to stay competitive, but against a side with the technical quality of Atalanta, “competitive” might not be enough.

Atalanta: Dreaming of the Champions League

At the other end of the table, Raffaele Palladino has Atalanta purring. “La Dea” are currently 7th with 50 points, just four points behind Roma and seven behind the high-flying Como in 4th. Having lost only once in the league since the start of 2026, they are one of the most in-form teams in Italy.

Atalanta’s recent record at the Via del Mare is dominant, having won on their last two trips while scoring six goals and conceding none. With the veteran Marten de Roon pulling the strings and Charles De Ketelaere looking like a threat every time he touches the ball, they possess the depth and quality to overwhelm a struggling Lecce defense.

Prediction: A Professional Job for La Dea

While Lecce will be desperate and likely set up to frustrate, the quality gap here is just too wide to ignore. Atalanta are chasing something massive, and they’ve shown throughout 2026 that they don’t slip up often against the league’s bottom-dwellers.

Expect a cagey opening 20 minutes, but once Atalanta find their rhythm, they should have enough to break through. Lecce’s attacking struggles make it hard to see them getting on the scoresheet against a solid Atalanta backline.

Prediction: Lecce 0-2 Atalanta
