“Eight Finals” Begin: Juventus Look to Hunt Down Como in Crucial Genoa Clash

0

For Luciano Spalletti and Juventus, the margin for error has officially vanished. As they prepare to host Genoa at the Allianz Stadium this Monday evening, the message from the manager has been crystal clear: every remaining game is a “final.” With the Bianconeri currently sitting 5th—three points adrift of Cesc Fàbregas’ high-flying Como—tonight is about more than just three points; it’s about staying alive in the Champions League race.

Juve enter this one after a frustrating 1-1 draw with Sassuolo before the break, a game where a late missed penalty cost them dearly. Now, with the business end of the season here, the pressure is on the Old Guard to deliver.

Juve’s Home Fortress

If there is one thing Juventus can rely on, it’s their record in Turin. They have avoided defeat in 19 of their last 20 home matches, turning the Allianz into a daunting trip for visiting sides. However, “avoiding defeat” hasn’t been enough lately; they’ve won just twice in their last seven league outings.

The good news for Spalletti is a relatively clean bill of health coming out of the international break. Kenan Yildiz, who has been one of the few bright spots with his creative spark, is expected to start in a front three that could see Jeremie Boga and the dangerous Chico Conceição flanking him. The midfield battle will be key, with Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram tasked with breaking down a Genoa side that loves to sit deep and frustrate.

Genoa: The Spoiler Role

Genoa arrive in Turin sitting comfortably in 14th place, six points clear of the drop. While they aren’t completely safe, they aren’t exactly in panic mode either. Under Daniele De Rossi, they’ve become a resilient outfit, though they are coming off a disappointing 2-0 loss to Udinese.

The Grifone have a terrible historical record against Juve—losing 70 times, more than against any other opponent—but they’ve proven this season they can hold their own against the big boys, having recently snatched draws against AC Milan and Inter. With Vitinha and Junior Messias leading the line, they’ll look to hit Juve on the break and capitalize on any “Scudetto nerves” the home side might show.

Prediction: A Gritty Home Win

Juventus simply cannot afford to drop points here, especially with tough fixtures against Atalanta and AC Milan looming on the horizon. Genoa will make it difficult, likely parking the bus for long periods, but Juve’s quality at home usually tells in the second half.

Expect a tense affair, but one where Juve’s defensive solidity—led by Gleison Bremer—keeps a clean sheet while Yildiz or Boga finds the breakthrough.

Prediction: Juventus 2-0 Genoa
