If Inter Milan were feeling any “Scudetto nerves” after a shaky month, they certainly didn’t show it on Sunday night. In what was billed as a massive test of their title credentials, the Nerazzurri turned the San Siro into a playground, dismantling a shell-shocked AS Roma 5-2 to move nine points clear at the top of Serie A.

The headline, however, wasn’t just the scoreline—it was the return of the King. Lautaro Martinez, back in the starting XI for the first time since mid-February following a calf injury, looked like he hadn’t missed a single day.

The Lautaro Show

It took “El Toro” exactly 60 seconds to remind the league what they’ve been missing. From the opening whistle, Inter were on the front foot, and Martinez clinically slotted home Marcus Thuram’s setup to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Roma did show some fight early on, with Gianluca Mancini heading home an equalizer in the 21st minute, but Inter’s quality eventually overwhelmed the visitors. Just before the break, Hakan Calhanoglu produced a moment of pure magic, unleashing a 30-yard “rocket” that swerved past Mile Svilar into the top corner.

The second half was a complete Inter masterclass. Martinez added his second in the 52nd minute, followed quickly by a Marcus Thuram header and a Nicolo Barella strike that left Roma’s defense in tatters. Lorenzo Pellegrini grabbed a late consolation goal for the Giallorossi, but by then, the contest was long over.

Chivu’s Men Take a Giant Leap

The victory is a massive statement of intent from Cristian Chivu’s side. After picking up just eight points from their last five league games during Lautaro’s absence, this “five-star” performance suggests the mini-slump is officially over.

With 72 points on the board and only seven games remaining, the 21st Scudetto is now firmly within Inter’s grasp. For Roma, the heavy defeat is a significant blow to their Champions League aspirations, leaving them stuck in sixth place and looking over their shoulder at a surging Juventus.
