Atalanta sent a clear message to their top-four rivals on Monday evening, dismantling a struggling Lecce side 3-0 at the Stadio Via del Mare. The victory moves Gian Piero Gasperini’s men to within striking distance of the Champions League spots, while Lecce’s survival hopes took another massive hit.

Clinical Dea Silence Salento

From the opening whistle, it was all Atalanta. Despite a cagey first twenty minutes, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Giorgio Scalvini. The young defender, who has a knack for scoring against the Giallorossi, surged forward and lashed home a powerful effort that left Wladimiro Falcone with no chance.

The star of the show, however, was Charles De Ketelaere. The Belgian playmaker was at the heart of everything creative for Atalanta, eventually setting up Nikola Krstović to double the lead. Krstović, facing his former club, showed no mercy as he tucked away a clinical finish in the 55th minute. Giacomo Raspadori put the icing on the cake late in the game, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to make it three.

Lecce’s Lack of Bite

For Lecce, the stats make for grim reading. Despite managing 11 attempts, they finished the match with zero shots on target. The home fans made their frustrations known, booing the team off at the final whistle as the club remains mired in the relegation zone, level on points with 17th-placed Cremonese.
