“We Are Alive”: Conte Hails ‘Extraordinary’ Napoli After Sinking Milan

Antonio Conte doesn’t do “quiet” victories. After Napoli’s gritty 1-0 win over AC Milan last night, the boss was in vintage form—a mix of defiant pride and a subtle reminder that his team is still the defending champion of Italy.

Speaking to the cameras after Matteo Politano’s late winner sent the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona into a frenzy, Conte looked like a man who had just won a war, not just a football match.

Defying the Odds

Conte was quick to remind everyone that this season hasn’t been a walk in the park. With a squad hit by a “tragic sporting situation” regarding injuries, he hailed the resilience of the players who have stepped up.

“This victory gives us a great deal of enthusiasm and confidence,” Conte told DAZN. “We must never forget that if we are up there in second place, it is thanks to those lads who covered for all the absences we dealt with. What they’ve done is extraordinary.”
He specifically highlighted Eljif Elmas, who put in a tireless shift late on, and the impact of his substitutes. It turns out the winning goal was no accident; Conte revealed he’d joked with Politano before kickoff, predicting that he would come on and “make the difference” once Milan’s defense started to leg.

The Scudetto Dream Still Flickers

While Inter Milan currently sit seven points clear at the top, Conte isn’t ready to hand over the trophy just yet. By leapfrogging Milan into second place, Napoli have officially made the title race a two-horse sprint.

Conte’s message was clear: if Milan can talk about the Champions League as a target, Napoli can talk about the Scudetto. He praised Inter for their “big” season but insisted that his team will “try to defend the Scudetto to the end.”

A Tactical Masterclass

The game was a typical Conte chess match. Napoli were patient, “diligent” in their shape, and waited for that one lapse in Milan’s concentration. When it came in the 79th minute, Politano was there to pounce.

It was Napoli’s fifth straight victory, and more importantly, it was a statement to the rest of the league. Despite selling key figures like Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia in the summer, Conte has molded a new, grittier identity for the Partenopei. They might not be the flamboyant side of years past, but under Conte, they are becoming a winning machine again.
