San Siro Shambles: Milan Left Reeling After Udinese Masterclass

0

What a disaster. If you were at the San Siro this Saturday, you didn’t witness a football match; you witnessed a funeral for AC Milan’s title hopes. Massimiliano Allegri demanded a “reaction” after the Napoli slip-up, but instead, he got a group of players who looked like they’d rather be anywhere else on earth.

Udinese didn’t just win 3-0; they embarrassed the Rossoneri in their own backyard.

The Breakdown of a Nightmare

From the jump, Milan looked sluggish. While they dominated possession in the first twenty minutes, it was that hollow, aimless passing that drives fans crazy. Christian Pulisic tried to spark something, but his shots were swallowed up by a disciplined Udinese wall.

Then came the sucker punch. In the 25th minute, Udinese sliced through a sleeping defense to open the scoring. If that was the wake-up call, Milan hit the snooze button. By the 37th minute, it was 2-0. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp rose above De Winter and Athekame—who were essentially spectators—to head home. The silence in the stadium was deafening.

No Heart, No Goal, No Hope

The second half was even worse. Rafael Leão, usually the talisman, was hauled off in the 76th minute to a chorus of boos. It was ugly. Every time Milan tried to push, Udinese keeper Maduka Okoye stood tall, including a monumental save in the 50th minute that basically broke Milan’s spirit.

The final nail? Arthur Atta. In the 71st minute, he capitalized on a clumsy turnover from Adrien Rabiot in midfield, sprinted forward, and beat Mike Maignan for the third time. 3-0. Game, set, and season-defining match.

What Now for Allegri?

Milan has now surrendered second place and looks completely devoid of ideas. The “technical and organizational” play Allegri promised was nowhere to be found. They weren’t just beaten; they were outworked and outthought by a mid-table Udinese side that looked miles ahead in terms of grit.

If this is how the Rossoneri plan to finish the season, the fans at the San Siro are in for a long, painful few weeks.
