GOR MAHIA 0-0 BANDARI: K’OGALO MISS CHANCE TO PULL AWAY AT THE SUMMIT

It was meant to be the weekend Gor Mahia put one hand on the trophy. Instead, the defending champions were left reflecting on missed opportunities and officiating drama as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Bandari FC at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday. While the point keeps K’Ogalo at the top of the FKF Premier League table, it was a golden opportunity missed to effectively end the title race.

Match Highlights: A Story of Missed Chances

Gor Mahia started with their usual domestic dominance, pinning the Dockers back from the opening whistle. The league leaders knew that a win would extend their lead to five points following a slip-up by rivals AFC Leopards, but the clinical edge that has defined their season was nowhere to be found.

The first half was a series of “what ifs.” Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw skied a glorious effort wide after being set up by Ochuoga, and just before the break, Allain Ngeleka in the Bandari goal produced a world-class save to deny Assifuah from close range. Bandari, to their credit, remained disciplined and dangerous on the break, with Gad Mathews forced into a sharp intervention to stop a powerful strike from Darius Msagha.

86th Minute: The Penalty That Wasn’t

The match reached a boiling point four minutes from time in a sequence that will be debated in the local pubs for weeks. Shariff Musa went down in the box under a heavy challenge, and the referee initially pointed to the penalty spot.

Kasarani erupted, but the joy was short-lived. Following frantic protests from the Bandari camp and a tense consultation with the fourth official, the referee dramatically overturned his decision, awarding a goal kick instead. The decision sparked a near-riot on the pitch, with players from both sides squaring up and a minute-long stoppage as tensions flared.

The Title Race Picture

Despite the dropped points, Gor Mahia remains at the summit with 58 points after 28 matches. However, the draw leaves the door slightly ajar for AFC Leopards, who sit just three points behind on 55 points.
