The “Coliseum Jinx” is officially dead. On a night where the pressure of the title race could have paralyzed a lesser team, FC Barcelona produced a professional, high-octane performance to dismantle Getafe CF 2-0. With Real Madrid dropping points against Betis just 24 hours earlier, Hansi Flick’s men didn’t just knock on the door of the La Liga title—they practically kicked it down.

Fermin Breaks the Low-Block

For years, the Coliseum Stadium has been a graveyard for Barca’s flair, a place where Getafe’s gritty low-block usually chokes the life out of the game. Early on, it looked like more of the same. Despite boasting 75% possession, Barca struggled to find a way through the forest of blue shirts, with Robert Lewandowski seeing a few half-chances fly wide.

But the deadlock finally snapped just before the halftime whistle. The breakthrough came from a moment of pure defensive brilliance followed by midfield magic. Pau Cubarsí—who was an absolute wall all night—robbed the ball in midfield and fed Pedri. The midfield maestro spotted Fermín López making a darting run and picked him out with a precision 50-yard through-ball. Fermín didn’t blink, calmly tucking the ball into the bottom corner to give Barca the lead they desperately craved.

Rashford Seals the Deal

The second half saw Getafe forced to come out of their shell, which only played into Barcelona’s hands. While the home side came inches away from an equalizer during a frantic scramble in the box, it was a rare lapse in an otherwise dominant Blaugrana defensive display.

The dagger came in the 83rd minute. As Getafe pushed high, Barca launched a devastating counter-attack. A long ball over the top found the substitute Marcus Rashford, who used his blistering pace to outstrip the defense. Facing the keeper one-on-one, Rashford remained cool as ice, slotting home his side’s second and effectively ending the contest.

Final Verdict: The Champagne is on Ice

This win moves Barcelona 11 points clear at the summit of La Liga with only five games remaining. If results go their way next weekend against Osasuna, Hansi Flick could be crowned champion before even setting foot in the Bernabéu for El Clásico.

Getafe, meanwhile, remain in sixth, but they’ll be frustrated at their inability to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.
