The future of Manchester United’s midfield looks secure as Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly reached a verbal agreement on a bumper new contract. After a season of incredible growth and a recent resurgence under Michael Carrick, the 21-year-old academy graduate is set to commit his long-term future to Old Trafford, ending months of speculation regarding a potential exit.

A Reward for Excellence

Negotiations between United and Mainoo’s representatives have been ongoing since January, and reports now suggest a five-year deal is on the table. The new agreement, which could run until June 2031, is expected to see the England international’s wages quadruple to roughly £120,000 to £150,000 per week.

This massive pay rise reflects Mainoo’s status as an indispensable pillar of the squad. Just a few months ago, the youngster was linked with a loan move to Napoli after finding minutes hard to come by under former boss Ruben Amorim. However, the arrival of Michael Carrick has completely flipped the script. Mainoo has started almost every game under the new management, providing the composure and control that has helped United climb to third in the Premier League table.

The Carrick Influence

Michael Carrick, a legendary midfielder himself, has been vocal about Mainoo’s importance to the club’s identity. Following the recent victory against Chelsea, Carrick hailed Mainoo’s performance as his best yet, and it is understood the manager personally outlined the player’s long-term value to the board.

By securing Mainoo’s signature, the United hierarchy is sending a clear message: the rebuild is being built around homegrown, technically gifted talent. The club is reportedly eager to finalize the official announcement before the end of the current campaign to ward off interest from European rivals.
