Blow for PSG: Achraf Hakimi Ruled Out of Champions League Semi-Final Second Leg

0

The celebrations from Tuesday night’s thrilling 5-4 victory over Bayern Munich have been cut short for Paris Saint-Germain fans. The club has officially confirmed that star right-back Achraf Hakimi will miss the decisive second leg in Munich next Wednesday after sustaining a significant right thigh injury.

The news is a massive gut punch for Luis Enrique’s side as they look to defend their European crown and secure a spot in the final.

The Cost of Victory

The injury occurred during the closing stages of the first-leg “goal-fest” at the Parc des Princes. Despite clutching his hamstring in visible discomfort, Hakimi stayed on the pitch to see out the 5-4 win because PSG had already exhausted all their substitutions.

His sacrifice was vital for the result—especially after providing a pinpoint assist for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earlier in the game—but it has come at a high price. PSG released a medical statement on Wednesday confirming the Moroccan international will be out of action for “the next few weeks.”

A Massive Gap to Fill

Hakimi’s absence leaves a gaping hole in a PSG defense that already looked vulnerable after conceding four goals at home.

The Stat: Hakimi has been a mainstay this season, contributing 11 goal involvements (3 goals, 8 assists) from the right-back position.

The Replacements: With backup goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier also sidelined with a thigh injury, Luis Enrique faces a tactical headache. He may be forced to shift Warren Zaïre-Emery into a temporary wing-back role or rely on a more conservative defensive setup in Munich.

Double Heartbreak for Morocco

The timing couldn’t be worse for the player. Not only will he miss the chance to help PSG reach another final, but the “several weeks” recovery timeline puts his fitness for the upcoming 2026 World Cup in doubt. With the tournament in North America just six weeks away, Morocco fans will be holding their breath as their captain begins an intensive rehabilitation program.

PSG will travel to Munich with a slim one-goal lead, but without their flying right-back, the task of stopping Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala has become significantly harder.
