The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has brought the hammer down following a chaotic weekend of Spanish football. While a viral “boxing” incident involving a goalkeeper has dominated the headlines with a double-digit suspension, Rayo Vallecano has been dealt a massive blow of their own, losing a key playmaker for seven matches after an explosive confrontation with officials.

The “Boxing” Keeper: Esteban Andrada’s 13-Match Nightmare

The biggest shockwave came from the Aragon derby between Real Zaragoza and Huesca. Zaragoza’s Argentine goalkeeper, Esteban Andrada, has been handed a historic 13-match ban after a moment of madness that went viral globally.

After receiving a second yellow card for shoving Huesca’s Jorge Pulido, Andrada lost control. Instead of heading to the tunnel, he chased Pulido and landed a powerful right-hand punch to the defender’s face. The “boxing” move sparked a mass brawl between players and coaching staff. The RFEF’s breakdown of the punishment is as follows:

12 matches for the punch itself (the maximum penalty for such an assault).

1 match for the initial red card dismissal.

Andrada has since apologized, but the sanction means he won’t see a pitch again until well into the 2026-27 season. Huesca’s Dani Jiménez was also handed a four-match ban for his involvement in the ensuing melee.

Rayo Vallecano Blow: Isi Palazón Hit with Seven-Game Ban

While Andrada grabbed the “boxing” headlines, Rayo Vallecano fans are reeling from a severe ruling against their talisman, Isi Palazón.

During Rayo’s 3-3 draw with Real Sociedad, Isi—who had already been substituted—was shown a red card on the bench for his furious protests against a VAR-awarded penalty. The Disciplinary Committee’s report was scathing, citing offensive language and “inappropriate gestures” toward the referee.

The Seven-Game Breakdown:

4 matches for verbal abuse and insulting the referee (calling him a “scoundrel”).

2 matches for the red card and continued protests.

1 match for the accumulation of yellow cards throughout the season.

The ruling is a crushing blow for manager Iñigo Pérez, as Isi will miss the remainder of the current campaign and the opening two fixtures of next season.

What This Means for Rayo

With the European spots still within reach, losing Isi is a nightmare scenario. The playmaker has been the creative hub of the team, and Rayo will now have to rely on Jorge de Frutos and Ilias Akhomach to fill the massive void in the attacking third. The club has announced its intention to appeal the length of the ban, but history suggests the RFEF rarely budges on “verbal abuse” charges.
