Doku the Destroyer: Late Stoppage-Time Screamer Rescues City in Six-Goal Everton Epic

0

The Premier League title race just hit a fever pitch. In what will surely be remembered as the game of the season, Manchester City escaped the Hill Dickinson Stadium with a heart-stopping 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday night. While the point keeps City alive, the result hands a massive advantage to league leaders Arsenal with only a few weeks remaining.

Doku’s Heroics and City’s Control

Jeremy Doku was the undisputed star of the show. After a first half where Pep Guardiola’s side dominated possession but struggled to find a breakthrough, it was Doku who finally cracked the Toffees’ defense. In the 43rd minute, the winger picked up a pass from Rayan Cherki and lashed a left-footed strike into the top corner.

At the break, it looked like business as usual for the defending champions. But the second half brought an “implosion” that no one saw coming.

13 Minutes of Madness

Everton emerged for the second half like a team transformed. In a wild 13-minute blitz, the hosts didn’t just compete—they overwhelmed the Citizens.

68th Minute: A shocking back-pass from Marc Guéhi was intercepted by Thierno Barry, who coolly slotted it past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

73rd Minute: The momentum shifted entirely as Jake O’Brien rose highest at the near post to head home a corner.

81st Minute: Thierno Barry struck again, pouncing on a deflected shot to make it 3-1, sending the Everton faithful into a frenzy.

The Great Escape

With City fans beginning to head for the exits, Erling Haaland gave them a reason to stay. In the 83rd minute, the Norwegian powerhouse latched onto a Mateo Kovacic pass to chip Jordan Pickford, netting his 25th goal of the campaign and setting up a grandstand finish.

The drama reached its peak in the seventh minute of stoppage time. With almost the last kick of the game, Jeremy Doku found space on the edge of the area and curled a sublime, desperation strike into the far corner. It was a goal of pure technical brilliance that salvaged a point from the jaws of defeat.

What It Means for the Title

The Gap: City now trail Arsenal by five points with a crucial game in hand.

Control Lost: Because of the draw, City no longer control their own destiny; they need the Gunners to slip up in their final three matches.

Up Next: City return to the Etihad for three of their final four games, knowing they likely need a perfect record to retain their crown.
