It was a night of glitz, glamour, and green-and-white celebrations at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on Sunday, and one man stood head and shoulders above the rest. Benjamin Nygren cemented his status as the new king of Celtic Park, walking away with a stunning hat-trick of trophies at the club’s annual Player of the Year awards.
The Nygren Era
The Swedish forward, who has been a revelation since his arrival, was the undisputed star of the evening. Nygren took home the most prestigious honors of the night, proving he is just as popular in the dressing room as he is in the stands.
The 24-year-old scooped up:
• The Men’s Player of the Year (Voted for by the fans)
• The Men’s Players’ Player of the Year (Voted for by his teammates)
• Top Goalscorer Award
Speaking to Celtic TV after his triple win, a humble Nygren said, “To be recognized by both the fans and my teammates is an incredible honor. This club is special, and we have a lot of work left to do this season, but tonight is a moment I’ll never forget.”
Best of the Rest
While Nygren took center stage, he wasn’t the only winner to receive a standing ovation. Yang Hyun-jun picked up a double of his own, winning Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season for his sensational solo strike against Rangers back in January.
The Academy also got its moment in the spotlight, with young defender Hayden Borland named Academy Player of the Year, while 101-year-old supporter Jackie Dow received a Special Recognition Award for her century of devotion to the Hoops.
Celtic Women Shine
The Celtic FC Women’s team also celebrated a historic season. Kelly Clark was crowned Player of the Year, while Morgan Cross took home the Players’ Player trophy. Saoirse Noonan’s clinical finishing earned her the Top Goalscorer title, and Maria McAneny’s thunderbolt against Hibs was voted the Women’s Goal of the Season.
