While South London is fixated on Palace, a different kind of European battle is brewing in France. RC Strasbourg Alsace return home to the Stade de la Meinau tonight, and they have a massive mountain to climb against Rayo Vallecano if they want to reach the Conference League final in Budapest.

It’s been a season of shocks, but this tie is balanced on a knife-edge. After a cagey first leg in Spain, everything is still to play for.

The First Leg: A Vallecano Masterclass

The opening leg at the Estadio de Vallecas was a frustrating night for the French side. Rayo, backed by their ferocious home support, managed to grind out a 1-0 victory.

Strasbourg spent most of the night chasing shadows as Rayo’s midfield dictated the tempo, eventually finding the breakthrough in the 74th minute. The French side failed to register a single shot on target in Madrid—a statistic that coach Liam Rosenior will have been fuming about all week. They were lucky to escape with only a one-goal deficit, and tonight, the handbrake has to come off.

Team News: Back to Full Strength

Strasbourg are banking on the “Meinau Effect.” They haven’t lost a European home game all season, and they’ll need that fortress mentality tonight.

Strasbourg Boost: The big news is the return of Sebastian Nanasi. The Swedish playmaker was deeply missed in the first leg, and his ability to link the midfield to the attack will be the key to unlocking a stubborn Rayo defense.

The Rayo Strategy: The Spanish side is expected to be without Alvaro Garcia, who limped off late in the first leg. Without his pace on the counter, Rayo might opt for an even more defensive “park the bus” approach to protect their slim lead.

Suspension Watch: Strasbourg center-back Abakar Sylla is one yellow card away from missing the final, but don’t expect him to hold back in a game of this magnitude.

The Prediction: A French Resurrection?

Rayo Vallecano are experts at making games “ugly.” They will slow down the tempo, feign injuries, and do everything in their power to frustrate the home crowd. However, Strasbourg at home is a completely different beast.

The French side has more goals in them than they showed in Spain. With Nanasi back in the hole and the home fans creating a hostile environment, expect a high-intensity start. If Strasbourg scores early, the Spanish side might crumble under the pressure.

Score Prediction: Strasbourg 2-0 Rayo Vallecano (2-1 on aggregate)
