The MHPArena prepares for its loudest roar of the season this Saturday as VfB Stuttgart host Bayer Leverkusen in a match that is effectively a play-off for the Champions League. With only two games remaining in the Bundesliga season, both sides are locked on 58 points, making this “six-pointer” the defining moment of their respective campaigns.

The Stakes: Win or Bust

Currently, Leverkusen hold the edge in 4th place purely on goal difference (+23 vs +20). However, with 6th-placed Hoffenheim breathing down their necks on the same points tally, a defeat for either team could see them tumble out of the top four entirely.

Stuttgart are coming off a wild 3-3 draw against Hoffenheim, salvaged by a last-gasp Tiago Tomás equalizer. While their attacking flair is undeniable, manager Sebastian Hoeneß is sweating over a defense that has leaked two or more goals in four of their last six outings.

Team News: Key Absences

Both managers have significant headaches heading into the weekend:

Stuttgart: The biggest blow is the absence of captain Atakan Karazor, who is out via a red card suspension. They are also missing defensive duo Ameen Al-Dakhil and Finn Jeltsch due to injury.

Leverkusen: Kasper Hjulmand’s side will be without Martin Terrier (hamstring) and the versatile Lucas Vázquez, who picked up a knock in training.

Tactical Battle: Revenge on the Menu

Leverkusen will be out for blood after being humiliated 4-1 by Stuttgart in the reverse fixture back in January. In that game, Jamie Leweling ran riot with a first-half brace. Hjulmand will likely look to stabilize the midfield to prevent a repeat, relying on the red-hot form of Alejandro Grimaldo to provide service from the flanks.

Stuttgart’s home form remains their greatest weapon. They’ve been incredibly resilient at the MHPArena, keeping three clean sheets in their last five home games. If they can withstand Leverkusen’s high-pressing system, the pace of Deniz Undav and Chris Führich on the counter could prove decisive.

Prediction: A High-Octane Draw

Given the identical records and what’s at stake, this is set to be a cagey but high-quality affair. Stuttgart’s home advantage is balanced by Leverkusen’s superior goal difference and recent 4-1 thrashing of RB Leipzig.

Final Score Prediction: Stuttgart 2-2 Bayer Leverkusen
