Despite being tied down at the BayArena until 2027, the Spanish wing-back has openly opened the door to a summer exit, admitting his heart is set on a return home.
Speaking to the media ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Grimaldo made his intentions crystal clear: “I want to return to La Liga.”
It is a bitter pill to swallow for Leverkusen. The 30-year-old has been an absolute cornerstone of the club’s historic rise, offering deadly consistency, leadership, and a lethal left foot that helped anchor their recent silverware success. Losing him now would leave a massive void on the left flank.
