Just when you thought the Real Madrid presidential election couldn’t get any wilder, challenger Enrique Riquelme has completely lit a match and tossed it into the football world. The 37-year-old green energy entrepreneur has spent the last few days dropping absolute transfer bombshells, but his latest campaign pledge involving former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has triggered total chaos.

Riquelme, who is fighting a massive uphill battle to unseat incumbent Florentino Perez in Sunday’s highly anticipated vote, explicitly announced that Klopp is his absolute number-one choice to lead Los Blancos. He even went as far as outlining the exact timeline for the takeover. Riquelme claimed that the very second he wins the election, prospective sporting director and club legend Raul Gonzalez will pick up the phone on Monday morning to finalized a deal for a new era at the Bernabeu.

It is a brilliantly calculated political move designed to completely hypnotize Madridistas who are desperate for a fresh, high-energy football identity. To make his ticket look even more like a modern-day Galactico dream, Riquelme has already attached club icons Fernando Hierro, Iker Casillas, and Vicente Del Bosque to his sporting project. Combine that with his previous prime-time TV claims that he would hijack Erling Haaland and Rodri from Manchester City, and you have a campaign built entirely on jaw-dropping headlines.

But the fairytale scenario didn’t even survive twenty-four hours before getting hit by a massive dose of reality.

Klopp’s long-time agent, Marc Kosicke, caught wind of Riquelme’s public declarations and immediately came out swinging. Speaking directly to Sky Sports Germany, a furious Kosicke flatly denied any agreement and didn’t hold back his irritation. He called the candidate’s public usage of Klopp’s name highly annoying, firmly stating that Klopp is completely happy in his current high-profile role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer and has zero intention or ambition to return to club management right now.

Insiders close to the situation have also pointed out that the iconic German manager is keeping his schedule clear for a completely different dream job, heavily hinting that he is waiting for the post-World Cup fallout to potentially take over the German national team.

Riquelme has already attempted to cool the flames, rapidly shifting his tone on Spanish radio to a much more cautious stance by admitting he has never personally sat down with Klopp. But the damage, or the political theater, is already done. Whether this bold, chaotic stunt will actually convince the Real Madrid voting members to trust the young challenger over Perez remains to be seen, but it has certainly guaranteed that the upcoming election is going down as one of the most entertaining circus acts in modern football history.
