Off-the-field drama has struck Shabana FC once again, and this time it comes with a heavy price tag. The Employment and Labour Relations Court has ordered the Kisii-based club to pay Ksh2.2 million to their former head coach, Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo, following a protracted contract dispute.
Trouble started when the former tactician dragged the Football Kenya Federation Premier League side to court demanding unpaid dues. In response, Shabana tried to fight back with a counterclaim of their own. The Glamour Boys argued that Omollo was still listed as their official head coach on the FIFA Connect portal even after he had departed and signed with another club. Shabana claimed that this overlap exposed the organization to potential disciplinary sanctions from both FKF and FIFA.
However, the judge wasn’t buying Shabana’s defense.
The court flatly rejected the club’s arguments, pointing out a fundamental technical detail: access and updates to the FIFA Connect portal are strictly managed by the club itself, not individual coaches. Because Omollo had zero administrative authority to remove or alter his own credentials on the system, the court ruled that Shabana could not blame him for their own administrative oversight.
With the ruling handed down, Shabana now face the tough task of settling the Ksh2.2 million payout. For a community-backed club navigating the financial demands of top-flight Kenyan football, this legal setback serves as a stern reminder that administrative slip-ups off the pitch can prove just as costly as dropping points on it.
