Michael Carrick’s Manchester United side showed massive resilience at the Strawberry Arena, coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory and lift the pre-season Snapdragon Cup.
Things started out a bit rocky for us. We found ourselves 1-0 down just five minutes in after Arnau Ortiz curled a cheeky cross into the far corner of Tom Heaton’s net. But if there’s one thing we know about this current squad, it’s that they don’t just roll over.
The comeback was sparked by pure magic from young Shea Lacey. Eight minutes into the second half, his dizzying footwork forced a desperate foul inside the box. New signing Bryan Mbeumo stepped up, cool as you like, and sent the keeper the wrong way to level the score.
But Mbeumo wasn’t done showing his worth. In the 74th minute, Jack Fletcher capitalized on a sloppy Atleti pass, driving the ball low into the box for Mbeumo to slot home the winner from close range. Mason Mount also deserves a massive shoutout—he was absolutely superb in midfield, looking sharp, dictating play, and forming a great partnership with Andrey Santos.
Pre-season or not, a win is a win, and the momentum is building beautifully ahead of the new campaign. Bring it on! GGMU!
