The wait is finally over at the AXA Training Centre. Alexander Isak, the man whose £125 million price tag has felt more like a millstone than a milestone, is officially back in team training.

After three agonizing months on the sidelines with a broken leg—an injury suffered in the cruelest of fashions while scoring against Tottenham in December—the Swedish marksman is ready to shut up the critics. And let’s be real, the critics have been loud.

From British Record to “Record Disaster”

When Isak swapped Tyneside for Anfield last September, expectations weren’t just high; they were atmospheric. But football is a fickle beast. A lack of pre-season led to a sluggish start, and just as he seemed to be finding his boots under Arne Slot, that horror challenge from Micky van de Ven sent him to the treatment room.

Before the injury, the narrative was already souring. With only three goals in 16 appearances, some sections of the media were already labeling him the “worst failure in Premier League history.” Statistically, it was grim: matches where he’d record zero successful dribbles and zero duels won. For £125 million, fans expect a superhero; they got a shadow.

The Slot Machine Needs a Jackpot

Arne Slot, however, isn’t hitting the panic button. Speaking ahead of a massive April run-in, the Liverpool boss was visibly buoyed by Isak’s return to the group.

“We all know who we signed—we signed an incredible striker,” Slot insisted. “To have him back for the last two months is very helpful. He’s in a good place, especially after Sweden secured their World Cup spot.”
With Liverpool currently sitting 5th and chasing silverware in the Champions League and FA Cup, they need more than just “options.” They need a clinical edge. The Reds have been creating chances by the bucketload but finishing them with the grace of a Sunday League reserve.

The Road Ahead

Don’t expect Isak to lead the line against Fulham this weekend. The medical staff are understandably cautious. The real target? The Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Isak has been running on grass for a week, and Thursday marks his first full session with the squad. If he can rediscover the form that made him a god at St James’ Park, that “flop” label will vanish faster than a lead in stoppage time.

It’s redemption season. The stage is set, the boots are laced, and for £125 million, it’s time for Alexander Isak to start paying back the faith—one goal at a time.
