The dust has barely settled on the Allianz Arena turf, but the war of words is just beginning. Following Bayern Munich’s breathless 4-3 victory over Real Madrid, Vincent Kompany took to the podium not just to celebrate, but to fire back at the “scandal” narrative coming out of the Spanish capital.
In a press conference that was equal parts defiant and exhausted, the Bayern boss made it clear that he has no time for Real Madrid’s frustration over Eduardo Camavinga’s late red card.
“It’s Surreal to Complain”
Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa didn’t hold back, calling the officiating “unbelievable” and “unfair.” But when Kompany was asked about the Spaniards’ outrage, he shut it down immediately.
“I think it’s surreal to complain about it,” Kompany stated bluntly. “If you look at the game, there are many other strange situations with the referee that went against us.”
Kompany pointed to several missed calls earlier in the match, including an alleged foul on Konrad Laimer before Arda Güler’s opening goal and a challenge by Antonio Rüdiger on Josip Stanisic just before Madrid’s third. “Focusing on a single scene does not reflect the course of the game,” he added.
The Mental Reset
The game started in nightmare fashion for the Bavarians, conceding after just 35 seconds following a Manuel Neuer error. Kompany praised his side’s ability to “press the reset button” and stay focused despite falling behind three separate times on the night.
“The boys were mentally strong today to recover from setbacks. We stayed calm and always felt that our moment would come. The fans helped us, and the togetherness we showed is what we take from this game.”No Wild Parties Tonight
Despite the historic nature of the win—the first time Bayern has knocked Real Madrid out of a two-legged tie since 2012—Kompany isn’t planning a night on the town. When asked how he’d celebrate, his answer was classic Kompany.
“You just celebrate in bed. I want to sleep. That’s enough,” he told reporters with a weary smile. “Maybe a beer or a glass of red wine, but we have Stuttgart on Sunday and then the semi-final. We have to turn the knob again very quickly.”
With a treble still on the cards and a date with PSG in the semi-finals, the “Kompany Revolution” shows no signs of slowing down.
