The roar at Villa Park could likely be heard across the entire West Midlands tonight. Aston Villa didn’t just win; they delivered a statement of intent, crushing Nottingham Forest 4-0 (4-1 on aggregate) to march into the UEFA Europa League final. After a tense first leg that left work to be done, Unai Emery’s side turned on the style to ensure their European journey continues all the way to the showpiece in Istanbul.

From the opening whistle, the intensity was palpable. While Forest attempted to sit deep and protect their slender first-leg lead, Villa’s persistence broke the deadlock in the 36th minute. Emiliano Buendía, the undisputed architect of the night, threaded a delicate ball through to Ollie Watkins, who clinical finish ignited the home crowd.

Buendía Pulls the Strings

The second half was a showcase of pure claret and blue dominance. In the 58th minute, after Pau Torres was hauled down in the box, Buendía stepped up to coolly slot home a penalty, doubling the lead and putting Villa in the driver’s seat for the aggregate score. Forest looked shell-shocked, and their resistance crumbled completely in a frantic three-minute window late in the game.

Captain John McGinn chose the perfect moment to step into the spotlight. In the 77th minute, he finished off another brilliant Watkins assist, before adding his second and Villa’s fourth just moments later after a driven pass from Morgan Rogers. It was a captain’s performance that mirrored the relentless energy of the entire squad.

The final whistle sparked scenes of jubilation. Aston Villa will now face SC Freiburg in the final on May 20, with the chance to bring major European silverware back to Birmingham for the first time since 1982.
