The “Hürzeler Project” on the South Coast is officially here to stay. In a move that has delighted the Amex faithful, Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed on Thursday that head coach Fabian Hürzeler has signed a new long-term contract extension. The deal keeps the 33-year-old tactical prodigy at the helm until June 2029, effectively ending any lingering rumors of a return to the Bundesliga.

Since arriving in June 2024 as the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history, Hürzeler has been nothing short of a revelation. After guiding the Seagulls to a solid eighth-place finish in his debut campaign, he has taken the club even further this season. Brighton currently sits in the thick of a high-stakes race for European qualification, proving that the post-De Zerbi era is in incredibly safe hands.

Rejecting the Giants

The timing of the deal is no coincidence. Hürzeler’s stock has never been higher, with reports suggesting that German heavyweights Bayer Leverkusen had identified him as a potential successor for Xabi Alonso. By putting pen to paper now, Hürzeler has sent a clear message of loyalty to the vision laid out by chairman Tony Bloom.

“I absolutely love working for this club and living in the city,” Hürzeler said following the announcement. “To have this long-term commitment from the club is an honor, and it only reinforces my desire to succeed in delivering on our shared long-term vision.”

Tactical Identity and Growth

Under Hürzeler, Brighton has evolved into a side defined by resilience and high-intensity pressing. The stats back up the hype: in his 85 matches in charge across all competitions, he has secured 37 victories, including statement wins over the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool earlier this spring. Bloom praised the manager’s ability to build on the club’s existing foundations while implementing a “clear playing identity” that aligns with Brighton’s core values.

With only three games left in the 2025/26 season, the new contract provides a massive psychological boost ahead of the final push for Europe. For a club that prides itself on stability and forward-thinking, locking down one of the brightest coaching minds in world football is perhaps their biggest win of the year.
