West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the departure of head coach Eric Ramsay just 44 days after his appointment, marking one of the briefest managerial spells in the club’s recent history. Ramsay leaves without a single victory from his nine matches in charge, as Albion continue to struggle in the EFL Championship.
The decision came on the heels of a 1-1 home draw with Charlton Athletic, a result that extended West Brom’s winless run and left the team just one point above the relegation zone with 12 games remaining. Despite moments of fight and competitive spirit, Ramsay was unable to spark a turnaround, earning only four points from a possible 24.
Ramsay had taken over from Ryan Mason in January, arriving from MLS side Minnesota United with hope of steadying a club caught in a slide. However, persistent struggles in front of goal and inconsistent performances ultimately led to the board’s decision to act. Alongside Ramsay, assistant head coach Dennis Lawrence has also left The Hawthorns.
West Brom have appointed James Morrison as interim head coach for the second time this season. Morrison, a club legend with over 300 appearances, will oversee first-team duties as Albion prepare for a crucial relegation battle fixture against Oxford United this weekend.
In an official statement, the club expressed its gratitude to Ramsay and Lawrence for their efforts, while stressing the need to find fresh leadership to guide the club through a turbulent campaign.
With their Championship status hanging by a thread and almost half of the season gone, West Brom’s search for stability continues — and the next permanent managerial appointment will be crucial if they are to avoid the drop.
