The Enterprise Cup returned to its glorious cross-border roots this past Saturday, March 21, and it brought a level of drama that few in the Kenyan rugby scene saw coming. In a weekend where the giants were expected to flex their muscles, KCB Rugby found themselves on the wrong side of history, becoming the only Kenyan side to be sent packing by their Ugandan counterparts.
The Wankulukuku Heartbreak
The biggest headline of the weekend came from the Muteesa II Royal Stadium in Kampala. KCB Rugby, perennial favorites and domestic heavyweights, were stunned 11-10 by the Stanbic Bank Pirates.
The Bankers entered the clash with plenty of confidence but struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined and tenacious Pirates side. Conrad Wanyama, named Man of the Match, was the architect of KCB’s downfall, leading a defensive masterclass that frustrated the Kenyans at every turn. A late flurry of pressure from KCB wasn’t enough to overturn the narrow deficit, leaving the Bankers to trudge off the pitch as the only Kenyan team eliminated at this stage.
Kabras and Oilers Run Riot
While KCB faltered, the defending champions Kabras Sugar showed exactly why they are the team to beat. Playing at the same venue in Kampala, the Millers absolutely dismantled Platinum Credit Heathens 61-19. It was a statement of intent from the Kakamega-based side, who look like they’re playing a different sport at the moment.
Back on home soil at the ASK Nakuru Showground, Menengai Oilers matched that intensity. They systematically tore apart Uganda’s Toyota Buffaloes in a 60-15 thrashing. With Beldad Ogeta and Philip Okeyo running in tries at will, the Oilers proved that their ambition to go one step further than last year’s final is very much alive.
The Record Holders Stand Tall
Not to be outdone, the most successful club in the competition’s history, Nondescripts RFC, secured their spot in the final four with a professional 29-13 victory over KCB Kobs. Despite the heavy rain forecast that saw kick-off times adjusted in Nakuru, Nondies handled the conditions perfectly, ensuring that three Kenyan sides will represent the country in the semi-finals.
The Road to the Final
The stage is now set for a massive semi-final Saturday on April 11, 2026. In a repeat of last year’s final, Kabras Sugar will face their “cousins” Menengai Oilers in what is already being dubbed the match of the season. Meanwhile, the Stanbic Bank Pirates will travel to Kenya to take on Nondies as the sole Ugandan survivors.
Semi-Final Pairings (April 11):
• Kabras Sugar vs. Menengai Oilers
• Nondescripts vs. Stanbic Bank Pirates
