Selhurst Park is set to rock tonight, April 9, 2026, as Crystal Palace welcome Italian giants Fiorentina for the first leg of their UEFA Conference League quarter-final. This isn’t just another match; it’s a historic milestone for the Eagles as they hunt for their first-ever European semi-final berth.

Under the guidance of Oliver Glasner, Palace have been the surprise package of the competition. They come into this clash on a high after a grueling extra-time victory over AEK Larnaca in the Round of 16. However, standing in their way is a Fiorentina side with serious European pedigree, having reached the final of this competition twice in recent years.

Team News: Big Blow for Palace

The headlines at Selhurst Park aren’t all positive. Palace suffered a massive blow just 24 hours before kick-off, with Eddie Nketiah ruled out due to a recurring hamstring injury. Adding to the headache, Jørgen Strand Larsen is serving a suspension, leaving the goal-scoring burden squarely on Jean-Philippe Mateta and the lightning-fast Ismaïla Sarr.

Fiorentina have their own issues, with Moise Kean and Manor Solomon sidelined. However, they welcome back Dodô to the backline, and the creative duo of Albert Guðmundsson and Nicolò Fagioli are fit and ready to pull the strings in midfield.

The Tactical Breakdown

Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 system has made Palace notoriously difficult to beat at home, where they remain unbeaten in their last four. The midfield battle between England’s Adam Wharton and Fiorentina’s Cher Ndour will likely decide the tempo of the game. Palace will look to sit compact and hit the Italians on the break, while “La Viola” are expected to control the ball and test Dean Henderson with long-range efforts.

Match Predictions: A Cagey London Night

Score Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Fiorentina

Both teams are in decent domestic form, but knockout football in Europe is a different beast. Palace have been defensive rocks at home, but they’ve also shown a tendency to concede late goals in this competition. Fiorentina are masters of the “away leg draw,” and they’d likely be thrilled to take a 1-1 scoreline back to the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Expect a physical encounter where neither side wants to blink first.

Top Betting Tips

The Smart Play: Under 2.5 Goals

Four of Palace’s last home games have featured fewer than three goals. With Nketiah out and Fiorentina likely to be cautious, don’t expect a goal-fest.

Both Teams to Score (BTTS): Yes

Despite the low scoring, both sides have found the net in the majority of their European fixtures this season. A 1-1 scoreline sits right in the “sweet spot” for value.

Player to Watch: Ismaïla Sarr

With the main strikers out or suspended, Sarr is Palace’s primary outlet. Backing him for 1+ shot on target or as an Anytime Goalscorer is the high-reward play tonight.
