If anyone is wondering if the Liverpool squad is feeling the heat ahead of tonight’s massive Champions League showdown in Paris, Dominic Szoboszlai just provided a very loud “no.” Sitting alongside Arne Slot in yesterday’s press conference, the Hungarian captain looked every bit the midfield general, radiating the kind of confidence that has become his hallmark since arriving at Anfield.

While the French media spent most of the afternoon asking about PSG’s returning stars, Szobo was more interested in talking about how Liverpool plans to take over the Parc des Princes.

Silencing the Hype

The press were quick to grill Szoboszlai on Luis Enrique’s comments about PSG’s “new soul” and the return of Achraf Hakimi. But like a true pro, Szoboszlai didn’t blink. “They have great players, we know that, but so do we,” he said with a shrug. “If they want to play a high-intensity game, that’s perfect for us. That’s what we do every week in the Premier League.”

He made it clear that while PSG is celebrating their “injury boost,” Liverpool is focused on their own rhythm. Szoboszlai emphasized that the Reds aren’t traveling to France to sit back and admire the scenery—they’re there to dictate the tempo.

The Engine Room Battle

Tonight’s game will likely be won or lost in the middle of the park, and Szoboszlai knows his role is crucial. With PSG expected to try and control possession through a technical midfield, Szobo’s ability to cover ground and transition from defense to attack in a heartbeat is Liverpool’s biggest asset.

“In the Champions League, you have to be perfect for 90 minutes,” he noted. “One mistake and you’re punished. My job is to make sure we don’t give them a second to breathe. We’ve worked on how to shut down their passing lanes, and we’re ready to execute.”

Hungrier Than Ever

The most striking part of his interview was the sheer hunger in his voice. Szoboszlai hasn’t just come to Liverpool to participate; he’s here to win the biggest trophies in the world. He spoke about the “special feeling” of European nights and how the squad is using the Leeds vs. United shocker earlier this week as a reminder that “anything can happen if you lose focus.”

“We have the quality, we have the manager, and we have the fans,” he concluded. “Paris is a beautiful city, but we didn’t come here for a holiday. we came for the result.”

If Szoboszlai finds his range with those trademark long-distance rockets tonight, it could be a very long evening for the Parisian faithful.
