If you’re a Real Madrid fan, the vibe at Valdebebas right now is tense. Alvaro Arbeloa sat down for his press conference ahead of tonight’s clash against Alavés at the Bernabéu, and he sounded like a man who knows the guillotine is sharpening. After the demoralizing Champions League exit to Bayern Munich and falling nine points behind Barcelona in La Liga, Arbeloa’s debut season as first-team coach is officially in the “salvage” phase.

“Seven games remain, and we must win all seven,” Arbeloa told the media. It’s a bold target, but let’s be honest—at this club, “losing is unacceptable.” He didn’t hide from the rumors about his future, either, admitting that whether he stays or goes is a “club decision” that he isn’t losing sleep over.

The “Champions League vs La Liga” Dig

Arbeloa couldn’t help but reignite the fire with Spanish officials, making a pointed remark that it’s “easier for Real Madrid to win the Champions League than La Liga.” He was clearly referencing the officiating drama in the recent 1-1 draw with Girona, where Kylian Mbappé was denied what looked like a stone-cold penalty.

While he’s not wrong about the domestic frustrations, the fans aren’t looking for excuses anymore—they’re looking for trophies. Real has failed to secure the Copa del Rey, La Liga, or the European Cup this season, a drought that hasn’t happened in over two decades.

Youth League Glory: The Only Silver Lining

While the first team is stumbling, the kids are alright. Real Madrid’s U19s just secured the UEFA Youth League title yesterday with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Club Brugge. It’s a bitter irony that the academy Arbeloa helped build is thriving while his senior squad is struggling to find its identity.

Tonight’s match against Alavés isn’t just about three points; it’s about pride. If Arbeloa wants to be in the dugout next season, he needs to prove he can actually manage the big stars, not just the prospects.
