The lights at Estadio de La Cartuja witnessed absolute madness on Friday night. Real Madrid thought they had it in the bag, but Héctor Bellerín had other plans, smashing home a 94th-minute equalizer to rescue a 1-1 draw for Real Betis. It’s a result that feels like a win for the Verdiblancos and a massive funeral for Madrid’s La Liga title ambitions.

Vini Jr Strikes, But Madrid Stutters

The game started exactly how you’d expect. Madrid looked sharp, dominating the ball and making Betis chase shadows. It didn’t take long for the pressure to tell. In the 17th minute, Fede Valverde let fly with one of his trademark rockets. Álvaro Valles could only parry it, and Vinícius Júnior—who always seems to be in the right place—pounced on the rebound to slot it home.

That was Vini’s 125th goal for the club, and at that point, everyone thought Los Blancos would cruise. Kylian Mbappé, celebrating his 100th appearance for Madrid, was a constant threat, and Jude Bellingham almost doubled the lead with a sweet volley that Valles somehow tipped away.

Lunin to the Rescue (Until He Wasn’t)

As the clock ticked on, Madrid’s intensity dropped, and Betis smelled blood. Andrii Lunin was arguably Madrid’s best player for 90 minutes, making world-class saves to deny Antony and Bakambu. He was the only reason Arbeloa’s men kept their lead as Betis piled on the pressure with 19 shots total.

But you can only bend so much before you break. In the dying seconds of stoppage time (94′), Betis threw everything forward. The ball fell to former Arsenal man Héctor Bellerín in the center of the box, and he didn’t miss. He buried it into the bottom corner, sending the Sevilla crowd into a total frenzy.

The Verdict: Advantage Barcelona

This draw is a disaster for Real Madrid. With Barcelona set to play Getafe later today, the Catalans could move 11 points clear at the top. The title is officially slipping through Madrid’s fingers, and they only have themselves to blame for not putting this game to bed earlier.
