It was a night of pure dominance at the Signal Iduna Park yesterday as Borussia Dortmund ruthlessly dismantled SC Freiburg in a 4-0 rout. For Niko Kovac’s men, this wasn’t just about the three points; it was a statement victory that officially secured their place in next season’s Champions League.

The match was effectively over before many fans had even settled into their seats. The breakthrough came just 8 minutes in when Maximilian Beier latched onto a brilliant long ball from Ramy Bensebaini, showing ice-cold composure to slot past Noah Atubolu. Dortmund smelled blood, and only six minutes later, the lead was doubled. Serhou Guirassy netted his 20th goal of the season in all competitions, rising highest to meet a pinpoint cross from Julian Brandt.

Freiburg looked shell-shocked as the “Yellow Wall” created a deafening atmosphere. By the 31st minute, it was 3-0. This time, Ramy Bensebaini turned from provider to scorer, thumping home a header from a Julian Ryerson corner.

The second half was a professional display of game management from BVB. While Freiburg thought they had found a consolation goal through Lukas Kubler, VAR quickly intervened to rule it out for offside, keeping the clean sheet intact for Gregor Kobel. To put the icing on the cake, substitute Fabio Silva added a fourth in the dying minutes, rounding off a perfect evening for the home side.

With this result, Dortmund move ten points clear of fifth place with only three games remaining. The mission is accomplished: Europe’s elite competition will be heading back to Dortmund in 2026-27.
