The Barclays Women’s Super League has entered its final month, and the drama is reaching a fever pitch. With just two games remaining for most teams, the race for the title and Champions League spots is tighter than ever after a midweek round of games that saw shocks at the top and a ruthless masterclass in North London.

The State of Play: City’s Lead Shrinks

Manchester City remains at the top of the pile with 49 points, but their grip on the trophy loosened significantly following a shock 3-2 defeat to Brighton last weekend. Despite Khadija “Bunny” Shaw continuing her sensational form—leading the league with 19 goals—the Cityzens were stunned by a resilient Seagulls side.

This slip-up has opened the door for the chasing pack:

Chelsea (43 pts): Sitting second with 20 games played, the Blues kept the pressure on with a dominant 4-1 win over Everton. Sam Kerr was back to her clinical best, netting twice to keep Chelsea’s title hopes alive.

Arsenal (41 pts): The Gunners are the “dark horse” with a massive advantage. They have two games in hand over City and Chelsea. Their goal difference received a colossal boost on Wednesday night with a 7-0 demolition of Leicester City, featuring doubles from Stina Blackstenius and Smilla Holmberg.

Champions League & Mid-Table Battles

The fight for European football is almost settled, but Manchester United (39 pts) still mathematically harbors hope of catching Arsenal, though the Gunners’ superior goal difference makes that a mountainous task. United was held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Tottenham this week, a result that likely ends their top-three ambitions.

Meanwhile, London City Lionesses continue to impress in their debut WSL season, thumping Leicester 5-1 to secure their safety and sit comfortably in 7th place.

The Relegation Zone

At the bottom, Leicester City is enduring a nightmare run. After their 7-0 bruising at the hands of Arsenal, the Foxes remain rooted to the foot of the table with just 9 points. They are now 7 points adrift of West Ham, meaning their relegation to the Championship is all but confirmed unless a miracle occurs in the final two weeks.
