It was a night of raw emotion at BORUSSIA-PARK on Sunday. In a match that kicked off ten minutes late due to Borussia Dortmund’s delayed arrival, it was Borussia Mönchengladbach who had the final say, securing a massive 1-0 victory to officially confirm their Bundesliga survival for another season.

The win moves the Foals nine points clear of the relegation play-off spot with just two games remaining, finally ending the nervous glances at the bottom of the table.

Tabakovic Breaks the Deadlock

The game seemed destined for a stalemate as both sides struggled to find a clinical edge. Gladbach had the better of the early exchanges, with Joe Scally and Nico Elvedi both testing Gregor Kobel, while a Samuele Inacio effort for the visitors was easily handled by Moritz Nicolas.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 88th minute. Rocco Reitz showed great vision to pick out Haris Tabakovic with a perfectly weighted through ball. The Bosnian international made no mistake, slotting the ball past Kobel to spark wild celebrations in the stands. It was a deserved reward for a player who had been a constant threat throughout the evening.

Dortmund’s Runner-Up Hopes on Ice

For Borussia Dortmund, the defeat is a significant blow to their hopes of securing the runners-up spot behind champions Bayern Munich. While they still hold a five-point lead over RB Leipzig, they will be frustrated by a performance that lacked the necessary “bite” in the final third.

Nuri Sahin’s side dominated possession for large spells, particularly in the second half, but clear-cut chances were few and far between. A wild strike from Julian Ryerson and a late chance for substitute Fabio Silva were as close as they came to spoiling the party in Mönchengladbach.

The Run-In

With safety secured, Gladbach can play without pressure in their final two fixtures:

May 9: VfL Wolfsburg (Away)

May 16: Eintracht Frankfurt (Home)

Dortmund, meanwhile, will look to wrap up second place when they host Hamburger SV next weekend before a final-day trip to Heidenheim.
