The Vitality Stadium has been rocked by news that AFC Bournemouth have officially suspended right-back Alex Jiménez. The 21-year-old Spaniard, who has been a revelation in the Premier League this season, will not be part of the squad for Saturday’s crucial clash against Fulham as the club launches an urgent internal investigation.

Club Statement and Omission

In a stern statement released on Friday, Bournemouth confirmed they are “aware of posts circulating on social media” involving the former AC Milan defender. The club emphasized that they understand the “seriousness of the matter” and have opted to remove Jiménez from all first-team activities while the probe is ongoing.

Head coach Andoni Iraola addressed the situation during his pre-match press conference, stating:

“The club has to do their investigations and see what has really happened… I hope it’s not what we think.”
While the club has not officially detailed the nature of the allegations, reports from several news outlets suggest the investigation centers on claims regarding inappropriate social media messages. Veteran defender Adam Smith is expected to deputize in the starting XI for the foreseeable future.

From AC Milan to Premier League Regular

The timing of the suspension is particularly jarring given Jiménez’s meteoric rise this season. After initially joining on loan from AC Milan last summer, the Spaniard triggered a mandatory purchase clause in February 2026 after surpassing the required appearance threshold.

The permanent deal, worth approximately €19.5 million (with the fee split between Milan and his original academy club, Real Madrid), tied him to the south coast side until June 2031.

Season of Success Stalled

Before this weekend’s suspension, Jiménez had established himself as one of the finest young full-backs in England. His campaign highlights include:

Appearances: 32 across all competitions.

Key Goal: A vital strike in the 3-2 win against Liverpool at the Vitality Stadium.

Accolades: Voted Bournemouth’s Player of the Month for December and a frequent Man of the Match winner.

His performances have been a cornerstone of Bournemouth’s push for a historic European qualification spot, making his sudden absence a massive tactical blow for the Cherries’ season run-in.
